Very good food and a good deli atmosphere. Had the pastrami on rye which was fantastic, and a brisket sandwich which was good but not great. Cole slaw they served is top notch. Service was a bit slow but it was packed at the time.

Horrible experience this morning. The owner no less, told complaining customer to never come back. Just get out. I remarked that it was not nice to talk to a customer like that. He then told me to get the hell out. I asked him who he was and he said "I own the f-----ing joint!! Imagine being treated that way by the owner. We need to boycott this place as he is crying all the way to the bank with our money and business.

We go there every weekend for Breakfast. Service is great and the food is delicious. During the summer it's buy one get one free every day but Sunday if you pay cash.

Robert P. of Flakowitz Boynton, The elderly man at the register is the person I was referring to in my first review and the location is the southeast side of Hagen Ranch and Boynton Beach. Maybe his name wasn't Larry or he wasn't the owner but I'm was just referring to what he told me. He also made a comment about how I was a problem the last time I came in when this was the first time I had ever been there in my life! He then told me that my "problem," which was making sure the drinks that I had ordered on the phone were there because I couldn't see them, would be handled after he took care of the other customers checking out at the register. He the proceeded to tell me that I was wrong and that I never ordered any drinks and that this was the last time I was welcome in that store. That was when I asked for his name and he didn't wanna leave out not only that he was the owner and his name being Larry but he then asked me what I was gonna do about it?! So, if this grumpy old man is not the owner, I wouldn't want him being the first at last person I saw at any business I owned, nor anywhere in my place of business for that matter.

I am continuing my review, so my first experience was definitely an excellent one. The food was surprisingly absolutely delicious and the staff are very nice and very kind and very informative. I must say that for some reason I've been hearing that a lot of my moms friends who live in the Boynton Beach area mostly Jewish have said to me the reason I don't like going to flakowitz was because they felt that the staff was very snotty and rushed them in and out. Now my own opinion is that is a typical attitude of the elderly Jewish community and it's very hard to please. So I am bringing my mom here in hopes that we have another great experience with food and everything else being superb

Gary our waiter was super friendly and helpful! The food was awesome and we will for sure be back. We ordered the Rachel and brisket sandwich both were fabulous. After I had to get a cookie which was the best part of the mean for sure!

Didn't read the reviews...I had a turkey Reuben for lunch with a potato latke. The sauerkraut was wrapped inside the turkey, so the bread wasn't soggy. The best deli I have had in years! The cole slaw tasted like the deli slaw I grew up having. My husband had the same with fries. He enjoyed it as well. The other person in our party had eggs, French toast and bacon, one of the breakfast combinations. Eggs were cooked as ordered over easy. Again, refreshing to get things as ordered. Typical line for a table and fast-talking waitstaff you'd expect from a deli. Little noisy. Prices are slightly lower than I expected. Gave it 5 stars because I really enjoyed the food. There are so few real delis left in S FL.

I had looked fwd to trying Flakowitz Wellington and was EXTREMELY disappointed yesterday. I ordered a pastrami on rye to go. I felt robbed when I found the Dr Brown's soda was $2.50! I had to ask for napkins and when I got to where I was going, there was no fork to eat my coleslaw. €£#@!!! Every mouthful of my sandwich was filled with inedible connective tissue. I had to pull all the meat out and pick through it. Thay should buy better meat or for sure* trim it! Very, very disappointed and felt overcharged.

Fantastic corned beef sandwiches! We had a rude hostess and waitress, but the manager was helpful in resolving the issues. With Passover, they were all out of bagels, but we will try this place again and hope the service matches the delicious cuisine at this diner.

Had another top-notch meal here yesterday with my parents. We stopped in for lunch at 1:30 PM on a Fri and luckily caught the tail end of the lunch crowd. It is late in the season and a lot of the snow birds have gone home so there was no wait. The three of us ordered our usual - yummy corned beef sandwiches on rye. Flakowitz did not disappoint - corned beef was tender, tasty, and piled high on soft and fresh rye bread. This time I tried the latkes and potato salad. The latkes are a bit thicker than what you traditionally see but equally delicious. The potato salad has tons of flavor, I considered getting some to-go. We ended up leaving with a giant loaf of rye from the bakery! If you love NY deli style corned beef or pastrami sandwiches you have to eat here!

I visited on Farther's Day at 10:20am hight of service. Long lines, but moved quickly so don't let the line scare you off. Service was friendly and fast. Food was great. Corn beef was lean and very tasty. Home fries potatoes were made fresh and very good. Bagels were perfect, no Lenders or Publix Brand here. Bakery display is what old time bakeries was like. Great place for breakfast.

Not a fan. Place is crazy busy and I don't know why! This place is so dang expensive I was turned off once I opened the menu. We ordered a kids french toast it was one slice of bread nothing else not even a little fruit for 5$. Honestly not a fan at all I am sorry. Gave it a chance and will not be coming back...

  • Bob D.

Bob....it has nothing to do with the price of the sandwich, if you go to Carnegie Deli it's an expensive sandwich....But you get a nice stuffed sandwich. If you go to Pomperdale Deli it's an expensive sandwich, but again you get a nice stuffed sandwich. Lose the scale and tell your deli people to not put the bread on the scale when weighing meat.

Going to Flakowitz felt like home - there aren't any Jewish delis like this in Northern Virginia :-( We had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated at lunch time. They had a buy 1, get 1 free lunch special - if you paid with cash. Given the cost of the entrees, it was worth it to shell out the cash (we saved $11). I had pastrami and chopped liver on rye with Russian dressing - my favorite sandwich in all the world. It was totally yummy. The cole slaw was ok and the pickle (sour not dill) was good. I wish I could tell you what my hubby and son ate, but I can't recall (guess I was too busy snarfing down my sandwich). We got 2 cakes from the bakery - 7-layer and blackout. The 7 layer was excellent; the blackout too dry. If I lived in the area, I can image being a fairly frequent guest.

If you're Jewish, you'll enjoy this place. If you aren't Jewish, you'll still enjoy it. Flakowitz is a time honored tradition when visiting the grandparents in boynton. Yes, the service is usually rude and the staff is impatient, but I understand why. The old people drive these wait people crazy, but still, the wait staff can be a bit nicer, especially when I'm polite to them. If I'm nice to you, there's no reason for you to be rude to me even though another table is a pain in the ass. Anyways, the food is pretty bomb for Jewish deli. I usually get the roast beef sandwich, best ever. The corned beef is excellent as well, in addition to the matzo ball soup. The triple D is not for me, not a big fan of stuffed cabbage but glad I tried it. The chicken tenders are also pretty good too. Kanishes are filling and tasty. Overall, this place has some pretty good food, but the service needs improvement. Also, I see why the servers get mad. When I go for lunch, they have cash only plastered all over the screens with the lunch specials, so when people complain they didn't see it, that is your fault not the servers. People try to argue they didn't see cash only, but it's all over the restaurant on every wall. If you go here and follow the directions and be polite to the servers then you'll be fine. Enjoy, it's quite the experience here. Welcome to boynton!

It's my last morning as a Florida resident, before moving to a land of less awesome bagels (Atlanta) and I just had to come in one last time to get a delicious #2 and to see my favorite waiter, Neal. The moment I walk in, he already is on his way to my table with a Coke and he knows I always either want a Mini Nova or a #2. With how busy this place is and how infrequently I get to come here, that's really impressive. I really appreciate how he makes me feel right at home and I know I'll be back in to visit him whenever I come back to south FLORIDA.

Hand down most obnoxious customer service skills of any so called, "Northern Deli!" There are too many other deli's around to go to, to give this shithole your money. Service is rude and impatient, the floor is filthy and unswept, the food overpriced and nothing special. For an extra level of ingratitude and ungracious behavior feel free to ask for a server named Neal C, who acts like he is doing you a favor by taking your drink order after he's already taken your food order. Then he will tell you he's "ready for you to pay" because God forbid you go on a Sunday, and he's ready to get close to ending his shift. He will gladly tell you how he's only off on Monday's and wants to leave and is only waiting on you to pay. Really, the place is full joy, much like a colonoscopy prep. Waste of time, waste of money, waste of a space that could hold a decent deli. Shithole, shithole, shithole.

Robert, My family and I visited your restaurant on fri 6/19 around noon. I do not remember the name of the man and woman who were working the hostess section. I do remember that our waiters name was Gary and when i told him why we were going to leave he apologized and asked us to stay.

I ordered a bunch of Charlotte Russe here for my father in law's birthday party and it was a HUGE hit. All of my in law's friends who live in the area were surprised and asked where I got them. My husband said Flakowitz should be writing us a thank you note for advertising for them! :-D My husband, his sister, her husband and I were throwing my father in law a surprise 80th birthday party and instead of a cake we opted for Charlotte Russe and Napoleans. Because my mother in law said growing up in NYC my father in law's favorite childhood dessert were Charlotte Russe. I have never heard of them , let alone had one and basically this is what it is : 90% whipped cream, 10% sponge cake topped with a cherry. You push the cake up from the bottom as you go, but you have to do it slowly or there would be no Charlotte Russe ;) . As for the people working there, honestly when I went in all I did was placed my order with a big bearded gentleman behind the far counter. Based on the reviews here and my mother in law's past experience she said that the service is very "mean" and "rude". So I didn't expect small chat or even a smile. And I didn't get either - which was fine - because I wasn't dining there and like I said I wasn't expecting them to be friendly. I came up to the counter and told the man I wanted to place an order for Saturday pick up at 10:30. He asked me what I wanted and I told him and he wrote everything down and handed me the receipt and told me to go to the front register to pay (this all took place in less than 8 minutes) .The guy behind the register was a thin guy who also didn't say much or nor smile but rounded up my order pretty quickly.Overall MY experience was uneventful. Took a total of 10 minutes. Not bad. However, my sister in law who was the one that came in to pick up my order (I gave her my receipt) had a not so uneventful experience. She came in Saturday morning and they hadn't boxed the pastries yet so the guy behind the register told her to sit and wait and while she waited she asked if she could have a cup of coffee (she wasn't expecting to get a free cup of coffee- she wanted to order a cup and pay for it and the guy told her to grab a number and "go order over there!"). According to her , he spoke to her very rudely. Now granted, this was probably HER fault for even asking, my husband agreed. Kind of reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with the Soup Nazi. You should expect the experience to not be pleasant therefore people should not be bent out of shape when they're not greeted with friendly service. Note to everyone coming here : know what you want before even coming here, then grab a number, get in line to place your order. Pay with a credit card and don't hold up the line counting your coins because it would upset the people behind you and especially the people behind the counter. Don't dilly dally, looking at the the desserts behind the counter either- the guys behind the counter don't seem like they have the patience for someone who would take forever and say "ummmm.....hmmmm....uhh soooo....what's good here?" Or "what do you recommend?". You've been warned other than that, Mazel Tov!

Still serving a lot of food, most of it kind of bland. No complaint about portion size though. Hostess and waiter no personality. Our table busser had some charm though. I could write this review in my sleep since it never seems to change. There is always a line waiting to be seated so it is important for them to be turning tables over quickly. Go here if you are hungry but if you are looking to sit for awhile with friends and talk, then you need to find somewhere else to go.

So, during my visit to Florida over the past ten days, I had the opportunity to eat at two well-known, and apparently well-regarded Jewish-style delis. The first was Flakowitz. Four of us went. I ordered a bowl of matzoh ball soup, and a pastrami sandwich. The broth and matzoh ball were good. Not great, but good. But... The slivers of chicken in the soup were sliced from some processed chicken on a deli slicer. I have never seen this in my life. Campbell's doesn't do this, for goodness' sake. It was awful. Did not taste, or have the mouth feel, of real, cooked, chicken. The pastrami was... Awful. You could see the huge amount of fat in the meat just from looking at the sandwich. The meat was sliced super-thin on a deli slicer. As any true deli fan will tell you, the best pastrami and corned beed are knife-cut. Now... Many use a machine. Ot could be ok if...and only if... the slices are thick enough, have real brisket texture, and have real pastrami flavor. The shameful Flakowitz pastrami had none of these. Many will also remember the wonderful texture and flavor of real Jewish rye bread. It should have small bubbles, a tight texture, and a firm, shiny crust. All with a tang not from a sourdough starter, but from (surprise) - rye flour. Flakowitz actually has signs up that tell you they use Pechter's bread. This is a commercial product found in supermarkets. It is airy, soft, and does not have the taste or texture of real Jewish rye. The others in my party thought the smoked whitefish salad was good. But... In my personal opinion, having eaten at the classic Miami Beach joints of Wolfie's, Rascal House, and Pumpernik's since the 1960s, as well as the NY joints like Katz's, Pastrami Queen, and 2d Avenue Deli... Don't waste your time and money at Flakowitz. I also ate at Too Jays in Stuart. More good reputation in advance. Excellent chopped liver. Really fabulous potato knish (the round type with flakier dough). But pastrami and corned beef... Just ok. Again, not the real seasoned flavoring of traditional Jewish deli classic meats. Very indifferent service. I have had very superior corned beef and pastrami in SE Florida on University Ave in Sunrise. The Pastrami Club. Not Katz's, or Pastrami Queen. But... Way better than Flakowitz or Too Jay's.

Went there earlier today with my mother and stepfather. The place isn't too organized with seating arrangements but heard great things from The Food Network. The waitress was easily the worst part about the experience. Within sitting down the waitress asked what we wanted to drink. When my mother ordered the chocolate soda, the waitress said it was a bad idea. It concerned me so I asked what was in it, and she quickly explained it. It intrigued me still even though she didn't recommend it one bit, so I ordered it to try it out. Upon finishing our drink orders, within the next 5 minutes she came to our table 4 times trying to see what we wanted to order, when we had to tell her time and time again we weren't ready to order yet because of the massive menu. She kept coming to the table though and asking, which was highly frustrating. When I finally decided what I wanted, she exclaimed "Finally!" It honestly made me feel very uncomfortable. The food came quickly, and the portions were excellent. Could've used something to spice up the flavor. The fries were excellent. After the waitress gave us the food, she didn't acknowledge us one time until we left. When we were done with our dinner, it took 10 minutes to even get our check, and at one point she came up to us for a quick moment and started walking away, with me exclaiming in a louder voice "Could we please get our check? We've been waiting 10 minutes already!" She was once again very short with us, and acted like she didn't even want to be there. I observed the restaraunt during my experience and noticed much better service, but this was easily one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaraunt and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The spacing was too enclosed, and we overheard a hostess telling a table to hurry up so they can seat more people. Either way, the staff was incredibly rude and unobservant, and I felt like they were just trying to rush more people in and out than actually providing superb customer service.

Don't even try it on your lunch break. It's an animal house. The only people more rude than the other customers are the employees. It's every man for himself in there. I wish I could have tried the food, but I have to go back to work.

It was my birthday and I wanted a 7 layer cake. This appeared to be the only place to get a 7 layer cake in the area. We actually went to a bakery before going here, but the bakery did not seem so great. We bought a 7 layer cake and 2 knishes. The cake was excellent. My father-in-law loves the knishes, we bought them for him. They seemed to have a lot of onions in them.

Unfortunately, it has been on more than one occasion. The service has gone down hill as well as the quality. A customer should not have to hunt down their server or feel like they are bring done a favor when asking for something.

What a great referral. If you are looking for a place that makes you feel welcome, let me tell you that is exactly how we felt. We would have never found this place on our own. That was one of the best deli's we have ever been to. The food was very good and the staff was even better. My wife is a little bit of a critic (in a good wife way) and she said she would go back. That works for me.

Though extremely inexpensive, the staff was surly and rude muttering under their breath criticisms. About what, who knows, but no warmth here. Coffee take out have SODA tops! Talk about an accident waiting to happen.

So unfortunatly I have to update my review. I visited the location yesterday in the afternoon around 4:30. Bella, the hostess was seriously the MOST RUDE human being I've ever encountered. Upon my arrival I asked for a booth for two. I was told "ok fine tell me when your party arrives and I'll seat you". So then awaiting for my friend to show up I decided to use the wifi titled flakowitz. When I asked BELLA what the password was or if they offer wifi. She laughed at me then rolled her eyes and said we don't have wifi here. Even though I could see it there on my iPad. Whatever I let it go. A few minutes later my friend arrives and by that time so has many others. As I'm saying hello to my friend. I hear BELLA literally yelling, seriously, yelling at me over the crowd of ppl in front of us that we can be seated now. Then she drags us without a word of hello or hospitality to our table in the back by the kitchen and bathrooms, drops the menus on the table and walks away. The coffee was cold and had grounds in it. The ambiance was very loud due to the kitchen and bathrooms and the knishes were soggy and greasy. A few minutes into the meal BELLA comes over and begins to tell our server, while he's at our table, that they need our table for a big group coming in later. She then looks directly at me and says "I don't know if these people are ever going to leave. That really happened people. I've never ever been treated like that. Especially at a restaurant where I'm required to pay!!! I used to love this diner. I will never go back. Enjoy your early bird special BELLA

Came here with my grandparents because they live in the area. For whatever reason it was I was craving for some meatloaf off their $10.95 dinner special. My grandparents opted for the liver and onions. The only thing I enjoyed was the bread. The matzoh ball soup wasn't terrible but my grandma said the middle of hers was hard. I thought the soup needed flavor. Hands down the worst meatloaf ever I don't even think they used ground beef. It tasted spongey for me. There was no egg in the middle. I tried and basically spit it out. The liver was an acquired taste but even with the coating of the onions it still didn't mask the horrible taste of slimey meat. Service was rushed. It was packed and well 5 o' clock, hello early birds. I told them.. never again.

Food amazing. Service. Meh. They serve this awesome marble coffee cake when you are seated. Never disappointed with the food. Knocked a star off for Meh service. And a star for it not being in NY. ;)

This is the closest place to us that was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. It figures we traveled a thousand miles on a road trip to try out a restaurant that was on the show, but we finally made an appearance after living in Boynton for a couple years. I was impressed with the service and deliciousness of the food. We got a lot of breakfast for the price. Anything with a croissant is one of my preferences, so I was a happy camper when I got a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich with a side of grits. We actually had leftovers to enjoy for breakfast again tomorrow and the danish treats that were included were a great addition to the meal. Thankfully, we were full and didn't have to walk out with more food from the deli.

I had to update because I've eaten here now. This place is an experience and that's what the stars are for (the entertainment factor). There really aren't a lot of places like this out there. Flakowitz is packed with senior citizens, the food is SO cheap for dinner and you get waited on by surly waitresses . They have some special for dinner where it's maybe $10 or $12 depending on your dish I don't remember exactly, but you get 2 sides, soup a drink and desert. It is SO much food. Plus, they also put out this huge plate of bread for the table which includes a small loaf of challah! So for $12 I think I got yummy, loaded matzoball soup, stuffed cabbage, sides of green beans and the hugest potato latka ever. And for desert I had a Cinnamon babkah. I didn't really like the stuffed cabbage, but everything else was good. I'd definitely come back. Btw, the fiance and I were the youngest people in there by a good 30 years at least.

We just had the worst and most rude experience here. Of course the place was packed as it was a weekend and they have their BOGO special in the morning for breakfast. We place our order and everything seemed ok except it was almost impossible to get our server's attention (Pauletta). Service was very slow and when we noted that we did not get the advertised special and pointed it out to her, she said," you didn't tell me in advance!" When in fact she was the one that told us you have to buy 2 beverages to get the special in the beginning. I told her this and she grabbed the check out of my hand and said "Whatever" and walked away. We get our check back and didn't realize we pay at the table. We get up to go to the register and the "greeter" was very rude and yelled at us we have to pay the server and "read the check..its on there." As we made our way back to the table, another server was coming out of the kitchen and apparently my husband happened to be in the way, she reached out her hand to try to slap/push him out of the way!!!! If you are looking for meager food and poor, rude service this is your place. We did not even bother notifying the manager of our experience because this is the type of place that wouldn't even care and probably condones such behavior by looking the other way and no reprimand. We will NEVER return to any Flakowitz again because of the rude, bitter staff that works here. Caveat emptor.... UPDATE: I find it interesting that the owner is only now responding to reviews. I wonder if it is new management. If it is, it doesn't seem like anything has changed. If it had, their reviews would be improving and the rudeness would stop. The owner needs to trim the fat and really watch the servers interactions with the customers.

I've written a previous review where I complained about the service, and went again, about two weeks ago. We had just finished a three hour treatment at the hospital, and so wanted some Matza ball soup, some bagels, black & white cookie, pickles, etc., TO GO. I went in, and was served by a petite Spanish woman (no offense here, because I"M SPANISH!!!) behind the deli counter, and although she had all my side orders done in almost 10 minutes, it took her almost 12 MINUTES TO RING ME UP!!! I asked her in English and Spanish to get help so that I could get to the car, since the chemo leaves my spouse feeling blah, but she was just really nasty and said to wait, that she was "doing it". She clearly didn't know what she was doing, and the other guys didn't even try to help her, or help me get out of there! I was disgusted at the continued bad service here. Then, just this Friday, my son was visiting with his family and wanted to try the food here. I relented, and off we went. Ordered chocolate milk for him, his wife and my 3 year old granddaughter...was told after they brought everyone else's drinks that there was no chocolate syrup, so no chocolate milk. I ordered the pastrami and after two mouthfuls of hard, fatty pastrami, I put it aside and just ate my potato pancake. The waitress came back and asked what was wrong since my sandwich was still there, and she did give me a brisket sandwich to go when she saw all the hard fat on my plate. I appreciate that she made the effort. I guess I'm just done. I'm taking my business elsewhere...I tried Bagels and...(that's the name "Bagels And", and they're just as good, not rude, quick and efficient.

Great food and the staff was helpful. I am a big Diners, Drive-ins and Drives fan and the fact that Flakowitz had been featured was the basis for my choice to go when I was in the area. I was dining alone and they seated me next to an older gentleman and we ended up having a nice conversation. Both my dining "partner" and the staff were helpful in making my menu choice. I had the Triple D which included Matzo soup, a cabbage roll and a knitsch. All were very tasty and very fresh. Definitely a "do again" when I am in the area.

Good portions of food. The food is quite tasty. My problem with this place is the crowd. Heck, I'm 50 and felt like I was the youngest one in the restaurant. This is a very noisy place.

There have been several negative comments about the hostesses and most of them are accurate but Friday night the hostess was Wendy. She is fantastic. Very warm, friendly and accommodating. The start to a great meal. On Friday night they have cabbage soup that is absolutely awesome. We had the brisket. It was delicious. We always try to get Doug as our waiter. He is terrific.

My family and I went here for lunch a couple months back. My father raves nonstop and is head over heels for this place... my wife and I thought it was just okay. She ordered a turkey sandwich and I ordered the hash with eggs. The food was decent... the service not so much.

Ok.... I came here only because my mother's boyfriend is a DDD fanatic and they travel all across the US on a motorcycle to visit the local dives, diners, and such in each state. So they came down to visit me from Georgia before heading back up to Daytona. The restaurant is in the style of quaint and local and longtime business, so don't expect too much because it has been around for forever. We got to sit right next to the front where people were waiting to be seated, which was kind of weird because people would be eyeing us as we ate. First, they bring out a free dessert to snack on (dessert first?? yes please!) and it was the marble chiffon cake. It was really delicious. I had to restrain myself from eating the rest so I could have room for my lunch. They had a special going on which was buy one get one free with purchase of 2 beverages- CASH only. Good thing that my mom's boyfriend had plenty of cash on him so we could take advantage of the deal. My mom had ordered the turkey reuben with sweet potato fries while her boyfriend had the special that was featured on DDD by Guy Fieri, the corned beef reuben and onion rings. I ordered the Louisiana Chicken Sandwich with regular fries. Now, we all sampled each other's meals and I'd have to say the Turkey Reuben was the most disappointing one of all as it lacked flavor and had sauerkraut balled up in the middle, but her sweet potato fries was the best surprise as many can't get sweet potato fries not to taste burnt and not to be dried out either. It was golden deliciously fried and was soft in the center. Next, the Corned Beef Reuben was DELICIOUS. Now, this place may just be the best place for the best Corned Beef Reuben in town for sure. The onion rings were also delicious, the onions broke off perfectly well in each bite without the struggle not to pull out the whole thing out of the breaded coating as it usually happens with other restaurants' method of breading. Ok, then it came to mine.... umm... I was expecting it to have a kick as I love spicy chicken and the description said it had "Hot & Spicy Seasonings". I did feel *some* heat.... but nothing that screamed "LOUISIANA!!!!". I Was disappointed. And I was also disappointed with the construction of the sandwich. It came on a toasted roll, 2 layers of tomatoes and lettuce... and it did come with grilled onions, but the big problem was the choice of bread and how the onions were cut. The roll was the hard kind and the onions were chopped. So each time I bit down on the sandwich, the onions oozed out and dripped onto my plate. I had to spoon it back into the sandwich just so I could have some onions in each bite! I feel that if they had changed the bun to a softer roll or bread and did strips of onions instead of chopped onions, it would be easier to eat the sandwich and actually have a bite of onions and tomatoes and cheese in each bite without it oozing all over my hands and onto the plate. :( Needless to say.... I will only come back for my husband to try their corned beef reuben which seems to be the breadwinner of all on the menu and if I had the chicken sandwich, I will only ask for them to sub the roll with bread instead.

The hostess and "the boss" as she called him refused to seat me because I was a party of one. Either I had to sit at a tiny table with a stranger or wait till the 1 available single table became available. I waited in line for 25 minutes before they told me this. Then they seated the entire line of party of 2 guests behind me. The "boss man" was so rude, loud and horribly embarrassing. He spoke to me like I was there to scub his floors. He accomplished his goal. I left, never to return. Wasted 40 minutes. My past experience is that the food is just average. The matzo ball soup is a bad choice. The corned beef is fatty regardless of the cut. Breakfast is safe. There are so many better delis in town.

The pastrami is ok. So it's not New York. But who cares, it's February and you're in Florida.

I was sold spoiled food a few times . Egg salad , tuna salad , off the frame turkey . You should not sell food that isn't fresh . There should be quality control . Some of the workers don't wear gloves and handle food . The food here isn't cheap there's no reason to sell spoiled food . If it's not fresh throw it out . Someone could potentially get very sick. Especially since so many patrons are elderly .

Three superb meals in three days (the second meal was leftovers from the first one!) Great food, generous portions, and latkes we'll write home about. Had a knish worthy of kings, excellent corned beef and smoked salmon, and a smiling staff eager to help. Will absolutely repeat again and again whenever I'm in town. (And I'm from LA, which has some supposedly great delis. But I prefer this one!)

After reading other reviews on this site, my husband and I almost skipped this restaurant. We needed to get back on the road for our trip so decided to give it a try. The service was prompt. The food was excellent and they were not stingy! I could only eat half of my Reuben. The prices were good as well. The only complaint I might have is the guy behind the pastry counter was fairly brusk. He may be from the north east and I have been told northerners are a little stand offish. When you're in the south that behavior is what we call rude.

If you like your matzo ball soup in canned broth with no chicken or your chopped liver sweat by all means. My stuffed cabbage was more like cabbage wrapped meatloaf My wife's roast beef sandwich was burnt, the meat and the bread. Also her knish was very obviously reheated in the microwave. Everything, I mean everything wasn't seasoned.

Listen up folks: you gotta understand what you're coming here for and then you will understand why I give this joint 5 stars. You are NOT coming for great friendly service. What you're gonna get is some good 'ol NYC attitude which is why all of us from the NY/NJ LOVE it! You are NOT coming for ambiance or people watching, unless you are looking for the Golden Girls. Who you're gonna get is a group very closely resembling Betty White and Rue McClanahan so be happy with that! IT'S AN AUTHENTIC NYC JEWISH DELI IN THE HEART OF SOUTH FLORIDA! So come for this: -the BEST Corned Beef and/or Pastrami on Rye with Russian Dressing and Cole Slaw, pickle on the side, the way this iconic sandwich is supposed to be enjoyed! Your lunches will never be the same. Don't walk outta there without visiting the bakery section!! My absolute favorite and the reason we stop here often are the rainbow cookies. No, I'm not talking about the butter cookies with the rainbow sprinkles silly! I am talking about what Italian bakeries call Tri-Colore cookies with the three layers of yellow, green and red cake, strawberry preserves in between and surrounded by a thin layer of chocolate. Yeah buddy - you know what I'm talking about now! So pick 'em up by the pound or get a tray made to take to a party with a few of those and some great rugelach! The parking lot remains crowded for good reason, and that was WAY before the Diners, Drive Ins and Dives feature. Trust me. Flakowitz is always on my hot list when I visit Boynton Beach! Put it on yours, too...

This place is fantastic, and I don't know what everyone is talking about because the service was really great! I had a Reuben, my dad had a corned beef and brisket sandwich - both juicy and delicious. They are very kid-friendly and attentive. Brought us refills before we asked and brought extra napkins before we asked. Our server, Maria was on her game!

Went yesterday morning and the service was excellent, the food was excellent and we were very pleased overall. The place was busy but the server was an expert and he took care of all his tables with great technique. The coffee was always full and the food arrived hot, I have no complaints.

Honestly, avoid this place at all costs. I have been to plenty of rude-inspired restaurants, where it's all in fun. And this deli is NOT in fun. The food is average and overpriced. The service is poor and the staff is awful. Rude is not an act--they all seem miserable! In fact our waiter told us they were not serving breakfast anymore that day, and wouldn't you know the table behind us (we arrived at the same time) was able to order breakfast! We asked our waiter what's the deal--and he ignored us. AVOID!

I stopped by Flakowitz yesterday with my parents who live in Boca Raton. They don't get out much and we were all craving a good breakfast. We picked the right place as the food was great and our waiter Neal was very friendly and provided great service. My parents are 89 and 90 respectively and they say laughter is the best medicine and Neal had us laughing from the start to finish of our excellent meal. This place is on our places to stop at and have a bite. The marble coffee cake is addicting and great matzoh Bry and Leo's!

Granted they were crowded but the service sucked. Takes 10 minutes to get hot sauce and by that time I was almost finished. Had to ask for a refill on the coffee. Waiter seemed very rushed and had a dirty apron on. Asked for boxes and they even screwed that up. Food was good but I was disappointed with the corn beef hash. It was homemade but just ok. Bagels were rather small. My wife always gets blitzes at Jewish delis but was disappointed when they were out of them. Really on Sunday morning no blitzes??

I'm shocked by the negative reviews and have to think there are posted by people who are never happy anywhere they go!! This place resembles a NYC deli for sure!! Yes they serve ham and have the option for cheese on the the sandwich but so don't the delis in NYC, doesn't make them any less "Jewish authentic"! Truth is, they do it because at the end of the day, they are still running a business and have to meet the demands of their customers!! My favorite complaints are the ones about how busy they are.. That means everyone loves it!!! My only complaint would be the high prices but you get what you pay for!! I usually get the mini nova platter!! So good!!!

My review covers just the bakery section and not the restaurant. The worse thing about this bakery is the rudeness of the staff. Its not an isolated incident. It is fairly frequent. Their baked goods are nothing to write home about. I go there for their onion boards which are decent enough. Their challah breads are average. The cakes are way below average. They may look tempting but lack any taste. This is due to the fact they don't use dairy. If you want a decent cake go to Grandmas Bakery. Great stuff. Avoid this place at all costs. I despise poor customer service. This place has it in spades.

The food quality isn't the same and the waitresses have serious attitude problems. I've sat down with the owner Carl a few times and he's a great guy but not sure why he has the most disgruntled rude waitresses. Ivy treats customers like they are her kindergarten students and is really not personable. And my recent experience with Terry was horrific. She was extremely rude and disrespectful and when I complained that my grandfather wasn't happy with his side dish, she stuck her hands in his plate, proceeded to remove the vegetable and then told us that there was nothing she could do about it. I can't remember the last time I had such a horrible experience with a waitress

Stopped in for lunch. Had the pea soup and half a pastrami sandwich. The soup was yummy. The pastrami was tasty, but fatty, and was served on a mediocre rye bread. I thought the price was a little high for a cup of soup and half a sandwich 'special'. Waiter wasn't friendly at all, but served us quickly. I don't know if he was trying to make us happy, or just wanted to turn over the table quickly.

This is a great deli / restaurant / bakery. Our server Mat was nice, thorough and conscience of the fact that we were a larger party comprised of 60% children ranging in ages 18 mos - 13 years which can be challenging in a restaurant). The only ill experience was the rude woman waiting in line behind us but that has absolutely nothing to do with Flakowitz. I now use the deli / bakery for my catering business and everything in my orders (which can be quite large sometimes) are always perfect. The gentlemen at the counter are wonderful. Not to mention, the food is fantastic!!!

Everyone has a different opinion on service, food, prices. Flakowitz, is very. Busy at night if you get there late they tend to run out of there better dishes, & there best desserts disappear quickly. Over all very. Noisy, servers ,some are nasty , some are great, the place can get dirty from all the activity and food falls to the floor, atmosphere is old deli nothing great, mostly the food is very good and I have had a few bad experiences but it hard to finish those hudge portions. Prices are reasonable for what you get. You have to have the mindset to get past these faults. But because they are nearby I go often. Some of there staff could use training on how to treat customers, with a smile and better greetings.but you have to be nice too for a good response! Snow birds are leaving now and they post good deals in the Jewish journal.update we ate on 4/11. It was a bad experience.server took order after a 20 min Waitr, she announced the item wasn't avalable ,my wife picked another ,cod came out uncooked(raw).i ordered a kasha knish it was dry and with no flavor . My matza ball soup came without noodles must have been some ones else's,Waitress tried to compensate us with extra Danish , we sat for a hr and 40 minutes before we got the bill. Just unacceptable this day.

I'm holding myself to not give this place two stars only because of the food. What is it with delis and waitresses that should be thinking of retiring if not for the age, for the fact that they seem not to like what they do. The service is horrible. To the point that we requested to have the transaction cancelled to pay with a different credit card and the owner, THE OWNER, said that he couldn't do it because they need an authorization from a manager and there was no manager at the time. REALLY?!?!?! This is sad because the food is good. But to be treated like crap by an old lady, no thanks, I pass.

Our experience at this restaurant would have been pleasant but for the actions of the brainless hostess and the rude owner. Apparently the rule that only complete parties can be seated takes paramount to common sense, decency and compassion. While waiting for our food to arrive, we witnessed the hostess and owner embarrass, inconvenience and mistreat a family with an autistic son who were trying to eat lunch. The autistic son is unable to wait in a crowded line, so he and another member of their party waited in the car until it was time to be seated. When it was their turn to sit, the hostess refused to seat them despite their assurance that the other members were on their way in from the car. Even after it was explained to the hostess, she felt compelled to scream across the restaurant to the owner that they have an autistic son and they are not a complete party. They were then made to wait for a different table that was too small for the party. When they asked for a larger table, the rude hostess made them get back on line !!! And the entire scene was replayed over again. The only saving grace was a wonderful and sweet waitress, Nancy, who waited on their table and righted the wrongs of management. The food is good, and Nancy was excellent, but I won't be going back anytime soon.

This place has not changed a bit! Same cranky workers give this place a unique charm. Food was consistently good as ever. Had a nova platter. Freshly carved lox with a bagel, cole slaw, lettuce, tomato and raw onion. Yum. Tasted my daughters kasha knish. Large, steaming hot pastry knish with moist kasha filling. This eats like a dessert. Delicious. Took some rugelach and rainbow cookies to go from their fresh bakery. Wish I had a place like this in my neighborhood. The parking lot is senior citizen bumper cars. Be careful!

Guy Fieri was here. Also here are the elderly people who live nearby. Ah Florida. Seriously I brought the average age down about 25 years alone (being 26). Living in Chicago certainly has it's upside when it comes to food...the downside not too many diners! It's an east coast thing in case you were curious. This place isn't too bad, and of course enjoy the bagels, sandwich, and breakfast choices. The service is your typical east coast diner experience, "get in and get the heck out." Love it....every once in a while when I visit my parents.

Amazing deli food. As good as NYC. Great for eat in and take it. This is on par with famous delis like Katzs and Langers. The people working there are mostly horribly rude and rushed, but it's worth it for the food.

We were meeting friends for a quick dinner on Friday & they suggested Flakowitz. Of course I was all for it since I have been eating at Jewish NY delis since I am a little girl. I am an ex Long Island girl so I know what "good deli" is supposed to taste like. We only waited about 10 minutes for a table which was great since it was Friday night. Our waitress was nice but unfortunately she turned into a ghost & at some point the bus boy became our waiter. It took quite some time to get our drinks which was surprising because they were not packed or anything. I ordered the brisket sandwich. The brisket was a little dry but it had good flavor. The potato pancake that came with it was good. My boyfriend ordered the patty melt. He ate it but did not seem overly excited. I tasted the fries that came with his burger & they tasted like the frozen ones out of a bag. Good but not great. The couple we came with both ordered the grilled portobello mushroom sandwich. It had spinach & mozzarella cheese on it. They did not like it at all. All of our meals came with cole slaw & a pickle. For desert we shared an order of assorted rugalach. I tried the chocolate & it was okay. Our friends ordered a petite sized chocolate cake that was beautifully decorated but they said it looked better than it tasted. Like our drinks our food took forever to get to our table. I was hoping I would like this deli more than I did.

I don't know why I have neglected this wonderful place. I go there so often, maybe subconsciously I want to keep the hordes away. It's already bad enough having to wait twenty minutes for breakfast or dinner. But the food really is THAT GOOD! Over the last ten years that I've lived in the area I don't think a week has gone by without at least one or more visits to this place. And over all those visits, I have tried most of the items on the menu, and I haven't found anything that I would not recommend. My favorites are the omelets for breakfast; the deli sandwiches for lunch; and the beef brisket for dinner. All of there dinners include soup, sides, dessert and drink. They are reasonably priced and there's always more than you can eat. They even have an early bird for additional savings and the service is good, too. Once you've finished eating check out the bakery and deli. They have jugs of their homemade soups frozen and ready to go as well as complete dinners and all the deli meat and smoked fish that you can stand. They also have some of the best bagels around. All-in-all, Flakowitz is my choice for the best value in the area. Stop by and try the brisket dinner, with a potato pancake and side of spinach!

We had corn beef, pastrami and chicken soup with matzo ball. The sandwiches were great. So was the service in spite of a good size crowd. There were about twenty people waiting. Matzo ball was a little sense but soup was good. Highly recommended.

Came in for one of their complete dinner specials and wasn't disappointed. Yes, this is a plain-looking place in a strip mall. Yes, the inside decor isn't much to speak of. Yes, the place attracts the silver-haired, early-bird loving crowd ... but so what? The food is really good! One of the best things about coming here is the mini challah they serve when you're seated. The rye & pumpernickel are good, but the challah is even better. I had the matzo ball soup, yum! Served nice & hot with plenty of noodles and chicken. The crispy fish came with two sides so I had the green beans (okay, boring but healthy) and the potato pancake (very good.) Our party also ordered the pot roast with kasha varnishkes and was in absolute heaven! The meat was very tender, served with carrots and potatoes over egg noodles that absorbed the gravy and tasted so-o-o good. Beverages were included in our dinner specials, as was dessert. Our waitress (who was very nice) brought over a whole tray filled with plates of cake from the bakery. I just wanted to take a bite of each one! I ended up choosing a piece of bobka to go. Had it the next day and it was wonderful.

The people who work there think they are doing you a favor by serving you! They are rude in the takeout, rude when they sit you, I was excited to get a pretty cake from the bakery...they said they would charge me extra to bring it to the table....when I finally ate it...it was all cake and no frosting...I so wish for the days 20 years ago when the flakowitz name meant good food and a great bakery...Its time for all of them to retire!!

The worst,Jewish deli I've ever eaten at. Crazy, hostile waiters. Actually frightening. Food was tasteless and full of fat. I would describe it as heart attack food. Also place so dirty a roach crawled across my table.

  • Gail S.

The matzo ball soup was delicious. The waitress was not rude like some people say, but instead very helpful and friendly. The sandwiches were large and full, more than enough for another sandwich. The potato knish was flaky and delicious. Every time we go there the food is fresh and delicious. We live in New York and deli's are getting less and less there, so when we come to Boynton Beach we always go to Flakowitz.

(2.50 stars) I've become quite wary of the "Diners, Drive-In's and Dives" spots. Some completely tank after their 15 minutes of fame, others were never worthy of note. Flakowitz Deli is noteworthy as a credible "kosher-style," "New York style" deli transported to the shadows of Boca. There are too many qualifiers, however, in this description. An 8 oz. corned beef or pastrami sandwich hasn't earned the moniker of "mile high," and the meat itself (while good) isn't in the ballpark of $11 sandwiches elsewhere. Sure, the service can be a bit surly, but that doesn't make the New York deli experience authentic. Their dinner specials, combining some Eastern European favorites with diner fare, are hit-or-miss, albeit, in large portions. The broth of their matzoh ball soup far surpasses the matzoh ball itself, which is a bit too fluffy for my tastes. In fairness, however, the debate regarding a proper consistency of matzoh balls has been raging since Moses' day. In the final analysis, Flakowitz Deli is probably more SoFL than it is NY, but is a decent oasis for the geographically misplaced. Try to avoid being anywhere near here during the 4:00 to 4:30 Early Bird rush, the blue-haired equivalent of "dollar beer hour." Finally, as if the world needed further evidence of why South Floridians are America's worst drivers, the parking lot is a zoo.

Flakowitz embodies West Boynton charm -- full of old people and cheap, filling food. This Jewish bakery is the best in Boynton and for good reason. The food is hot and quickly served, and I've always had good service here. If you're my age, you'll be the youngest person there by at least 40 years but Flakowitz will be too crowded for you to notice. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes, despite how long the line might look. My favorite part of Flakowitz might be the complimentary chocolate-swirl coffee cake brought out to tables before the meal, but this isn't a place to be counting calories. The portions are generous, and the price affordable. I recommend the challah-bread french toast smothered in thick syrup and white sugar.

I love this I place!! This is my second visit , I have also visited the other store Flakowitz Bagel. I am originally from Long Island and this restaurant / Deli reminds me of home!!! Aside from the entertinment of people enjoying themselves , the food is excellant!! I have had the traditional Hot corned beef on rye with potato pancake , but today i had the Monte and again tasty and enough left for dinner!! . We bought some of the Linzer tart cookies for the ride back to Fort Myers ... Heavenly bites!!. One of the girls had the Spinach Benedict. Also very good and hit the spot. The Rachel which is corned beef and sauerkraut was mouth watering and enough to bring home for a later bite. Another friend had the club on seedless rye and again no complaints.... If I had one thing to change about this restaurant , that would be better coffee.. other than that I have not a complaint!!! Breakfast is served after the menu stated time which was nice for those wanting breakfast for lunch...

Authentic NYC Jewish Deli. The matzo ball soup is the best! I read that the employees are rude, not true, a lot of the customers are. I've gone to Flakowitz on numerous occasions, each time I've noticed how rude and unreasonable some customers can be. The employees give some back, but I don't blame them! Go to Flakowitz and enjoy a good meal and fun atmosphere.

I had given this place a 3star rating awhile ago and this is an update. My husband and I come here less than we used to and are leaning toward not coming back. We can't fault the food, but one wonders if the owner knows how this place is being run. I understand that they only seat entire parties, but when the husband is just outside parking, basically the entire party is there. Our friends were visiting. I and my friend stopped in to Flakowitz for a late lunch. While seated at a table for 4 we spotted 2 other friends just walking in and invited them to sit with us. The hostess came over and scolded us for "breaking the rules". More recently we decided to eat breakfast there and it was 8:45. There were no booths left except for a section which did not open until 9:00. I know if I owned the restaurant I would do what I could to keep a customer from walking out. Well, they let us walk out. I come from the northeast originally and have had my fill of "New York Attitude". There are more good places down here in Florida than there were and the customer should not have to expect to abused to eat a meal.

Service is ok. The place is dirty, especially the silverware and glasses/mugs. They turn the tables quickly. Food is outstanding. Had the triple D--matzoh ball soup was fabulous, fluffy and great taste. Stuffed cabbage was cooked perfectly. Spinach knish was excellent and served pipping hot as requested. Bathe omelette are huge and tasty. They just don't get special requests quite right. But servers will correct mistakes made by the kitchen. Nancy is excellent. Would give more stars but its too messy/dirty. Come for the food not the atmosphere or decor.

Rudest server and hostess I have ever met. I met my cousin for breakfast today, we haven't seen each for over 10 years and she is new to our area. I recommended we meet at Flakowitz as it reminds me of us growing up in NY. Our waiter hardly looked at us, except to push the menus under our face to hurry up our order which we weren't ready to do yet. Presented our food like it was a bother, twice we were interrupted by staff to clean our table, not just when we were done but literally take everything off the table, not too subtle way to telll us to leave. Final straw, hostess came to our table and asked us to leave as they needed the table when there were at least a dozen available tables in the restaurant. When i expressed my unhappiness i was told the waiter (yes the rude one) needed us to leave so another party could be at at our table...per the hostess, he needs to make a living and obviously we were taking up valuable real estate. So let me see, customers take second place to a rude waiter, my wanting to introduce Flakowitz to a new resident in the area goes South and I leave feeling very pissed off. BTW, when we left is was about 1:30, lunch time was over, staff was sitting around and NO ONE was waiting for a table at all.

Horrible service. The manager and staff are so full of... The food is blah, at best and way over priced. Wish I could give them negative stars. Go else where. Do not buy into the hype. Stay away... FYI Can't say that I did not warn you.

Ok, on a whim, I decided to check out Flakowitz on Yelp tonight, as I'd been there for the first time in late December, and look forward to returning in the next few months when I visit dad in Boynton. All I can say about these negative reviews is...it wasn't my experience. Now I'll admit, being from Nashville, we have nothing this authentic up here, so it was great to eat real deli food (even though I'm not a big meat eater anymore). No, my waiter wasn't Mr. Personality, but he did the job. I don't need to be "catered to" and I don't care about "atmosphere." I loved the pea soup and loved the brisket sandwich. My dad loved his tongue sandwich. I experienced no rudeness but hey, deli people are busy, especially at peak times. I can take a little "crust" on my deli people as well as on my bread. People today are just way too sensitive and love to complain. The only thing I'm complaining about here is people who love to complain. If you want perfection, go to Grandma's.

Lunch with a buddy from Great Neck, had a Brisket sandwich and Split Pea soup! Both were really good, waiter was pretty funny! Need to try the one in Wellington, as its closer to my house!

Was there for first time on Oct. 15, 2012. Worst meal I ever had. Meatloaf sandwich tasted like it was made of sawdust and green peppers. (I DARE ANYONE TO ORDER THIS AND ACTUALLY EAT IT). The service was not memorable, however the french fries were very, very good. When we didn't eat the entire meal, the waitress asked if it was ok, we said it was awful. She offered to bring something else, but we could not eat after that. No one ever came over and apologized. If you go there, DON'T order meatloaf and DON'T go after 6:30PM (they close at 7:45pm) you may get the "bums rush".

What a dive this place has taken! Everyone from the waitresses to the manager I spoke with to complain have that stupid NY rudeness that they think should be served up with your meal, but I didn't appreciate it at all. I have always liked (Not loved) the food here and couldn't figure out how it made it onto DDD other than the fact that Boynton doesn't have much in the way of good food. I used to appreciate the small plate with 4-5 pieces of marble cake upon being seated, but that has been reduced to 1 piece per person- really??? Is that saving .47 per table? We asked for a few more pieces, but got the "No bread for you! Try getting a drink refill in less than 30 minutes- ain't gonna happen! Anyhow, I'm 100% Jewish by birth and know a good authentic deli when I see one and this used to be one- No longer. Until this place realizes that your service needs to be as good as your food, I'm done eating there.

This place was awesome and we had so much food and it was delicious. We didn't wait for table for four of us, we all had the complete dinners which were great. They bring out fresh bread and butter, soup or salad, entrees with two side dishes with a drink and dessert! Brought home a lot of food! Will go back! With the average age customers over 70, I felt really young.

The food is pretty good but its never worth dealing with the attitudes of the people working here. The staff always acts like they're doing you a favor by letting you eat their food. Maybe they're not aware that it's only deli food, which you can get anywhere. When I go to a restaurant I like to feel like I'm home away from home. This place isn't even close to that. Don't even try to customize your order, cause it's their way or the highway. I pick the highway, or at least another deli.

Some reviews discuss the poor service, but not during my recent visit. For was excellent and their were no complaints regarding the service. Our waiter Andrey was attentive and helpful. Will make a return visit whenever in the area

Rude hostess and mediocre, overpriced food. This place is not worth the time. Customer service is not a priority. The highest priority is fleecing the customer.

After a very scary experience at the Flakowitz on Federal Highway in Boca, I was delighted to find out that this is a much, much better restaurant. The food is good solid deli. The service was excellent. The only down tick was that they're cash only, which, at deli prices, means back the truck up a couple of times to pay them. Credit cards would be a good move, as there are lots of eateries in the area that compete and take plastic.

Surly and rude help. Stay away. We had been regular customers, however the help had turned us off to this restaurant a while ago. We thought we'd give them another try tonight, but sadly, they have only gone from bad to worse. Tonight the fellow at the register by the door would not let us in, pointing to his sign saying they closed at quarter of the hour and then pointing to his clock. Thing is, his own clock showed it was still open. When we explained that, he was exceptionally rude to us with his raised voice, unacceptably so for any business that values its customers. Will never go there again and advise you to do the same. There are many other choices for old fashioned deli restaurants in the area.

We visited on July 28th just before our flight back to Toronto. The service was outstanding. Once they found out where we were from they joked and were very friendly and funny. We both had pastrami on rye with potato pancakes and coleslaw. We were served very quickly and were back on the road to catch our flight in no time. Our only regret is that we didn't bring anything home from the bakery. Looking forward to going back next year!

Stopped in here because i saw it on Food Network, and it lived up to the hype. When you walk in your nose gets hit by the awsome smells from their bakary. line was a little long but we were seated within 10 min. I ordered the turkey pastami and my wife got their club sandwhich. Both tasted amazing and the onion rings were very good as well. We will be back again.

After reading reviews, it was exactly as we expected. Typical Jewish deli...outta my way I am way more important than u. But that is really funny if u get it and that makes great people watching!! The food is a good value for the price as it was bogo today. We tipped as if no is discount so Neal loved us Gentiles when we left. Would definitely go back and act my Christian self with pride.

There is only one deli outside the northeast that I ever go to and that is Flaowitz in Boynton. After landing in West Pam Beach recently our first stop was to Flakowitz's for breakfast. Being there feels like we arrived home with consistent fantastic Jewish food. The last visit was an added pleasure with server Alex, who was fun and thorough.

Came here for a bite to eat on a weekend I was working in town. It was suggested by a colleague who described it as, "not as good as a NYC deli, but it's OK." Well I haven't been to a NYC deli myself, but if this is an indication of a mediocre one, I'm not looking forward to it. I ordered a pastrami sandwich, which came with coleslaw and a potato pancake + applesauce. It was edible, but generally not what I consider to be "good". Everything on the plate looked as if someone turned the color saturation down on my eyes. Perhaps the room has poor lighting, but when everything on the plate is shades of gray or sepia, there's a quality that fades along with the color. The pastrami meat was the best part of the meal, and that was just average. Everything else tasted like it came from a can, and the rye bread was too chewy. In general, I felt slow and lethargic afterwards. The food is so heavy and you don't even need to eat more than a few bites to feel like you swallowed a fistful of lead shot. Other than this, the service was very sarcastic. The elderly gentleman who served us was trying too hard to be "cool" or joke around, but it just didn't work. I tried throwing back some one-liners at him, but was met with a blank stare. Either he was hard-of-hearing or my comments weren't funny. It was like a one-way street. If you pitch the jokes, I think you are required to also catch them. I kind of had the sense that I was eating in a nursing home cafeteria. The rest of the deli was filled with slouching blue-hairs waist-deep in the grave. Bless their hearts. Seriously, because if they keep eating that food they won't be around much longer.

The food here is generally good. I really dig the potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage, matzo ball soup and their reuben sandwich. If you get there early enough, some of the breakfast specials/combos are a really good value. The real drawbacks to this place include having to wade through hordes of cranky seniors and the spotty service. Some of the staff members are friendly and helpful (particularly at the deli section), some can be flat-out obnoxious. Because of this, it somtimes feels like a hassle to eat here. Anyway, it's decent enough, so give it a shot if you happen to be in the area.

Food was tasty standard deli fare. However, the service was something else. It was so bad, it was actually comical. My fiance and I still occasionally laugh about it. Our server, Ivy, was one of the most miserable individuals I've ever encountered. She seemed to enjoy stomping around the dining room barking out orders at customers. Although I'm sure it's difficult to be a waitress in a place where your average customer is 80, it's still no excuse for extreme rudeness. My favorite was when a lady at another table asked Ivy politely for a lean corned beef sandwich. Simple enough? apparently not! Ivy snapped "DONT'T COMPLAIN TO ME WHEN YOUR LEAN CORN BEEF IS DRY". She also yelled at someone in our party for asking if they have broccoli at Flakowitzs. I don't know where they found this woman. She's a real gem ; )

Giving only 2 stars for the food, which is pretty decent and authentic for NY style deli. Their sandwiches are ok, good soups. But let's not get carried away with the ratings. If I were to rate the customer service, it would be less than one star. Definitely one of the worst and rudest places I have ever eaten. Waitress was very short, rude and disappeared the entire time. Had to keep calling her repeatedly for coffee refills, crackers. Made us feel so unwelcome and as if we were not too bright because we didn't understand the menu. Really no customer skills at all! Finally got the bill, and it was wrong. Was overcharged for some of the items but was too stressed to argue with waitress. Went back a few hours later and got the bill fixed but why go through the hassle for a simple lunch. This place needs to improve their service or get out of the service industry. Eating out is as much for the experience as the food.

  • Dana S.

I can't even give this place any stars. When you can't even get a soda in less than 30 minutes and when you do the waitress throws the straws at you. A complaint to the "management" does no good since it seems to be acceptable behavior to be rude to the customer. Have gotten better service at the McDonald's drive thru. Ended up not eating there even though they offered to comp the meal because the service was so abominable ! Will never go back there again!

One of the best bagels I've ever had. Just a sesame seed, and so tasty. Also had an omelette, which was huge, as was the helping of home fries. The size of the deli meat sandwiches was also startling. Considering the portion sizes ad quality, the prices are about right. We also love the little pieces of cake they brought over at the beginning of the experience. The line didn't take too long to get through, even with our party of three. A group of 5+ would have a much more difficult time getting seated quickly.

  • Michael M.

I wanted to give them a 2.5 but rounded up out of the generosity of my soul... If you just want baked goods, you'll love it, everything tastes fresh and homemade. If you're coming for the food, that is a horse of a different color. Standing in front of the deli counter, watching them slice the pastrami fresh, I was amazed to find it... Meh. I could take it or leave it. I've eaten here a couple of times and never really impressed with anything. It's passable diner fare, but only just. You'd be a lot better off going to Too Jay's... Or even Jason's.

we went to Flakowitz. We both had overstuffed sandwiches. Very good food and a great Jewish Deli experience. The brisket was tasty and I recommend dunking the sandwich in their au jus. My wife had the corned beef and chopped liver. They go great with a Dr. Brown's soda.

Despite having been featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, it's nothing special, really. Expected more. Oh well. It's a typical "New York" style deli with all the usual fare, right down to the "black & white" cookies made famous by Seinfeld. I didn't try the stuffed cabbage because I don't like it. I opted for the corned beef and pastrami on rye (not bad; had better), my father had a tuna melt (looked like he hated it) and my son had a ham & cheese on white (he ate most of it, which is saying something). While none were great, all were serviceable. Say what you want about the battle-hardened service staff (I think they're still called waitresses here), ours was nice and paid special attention to the youngest in our dining trio. She quckly brought out a bread basket to keep him occupied and even had the kitchen custom make the ham & cheese, which wasn't on the kids' menu. I know - not really a stretch for a deli, but it was the thought that counts. After dinner she even took him by the hand over to the bakery to pick out a cookie for dessert. She made our boys' night out thoroughly enjoyable. All-in-all, not a bad experience. If you do go there, don't expect too much and be ready to hang a while with the old-timers. (2.5 stars)

    (2)
  • Lauren D.

Ahh, the place us youngns call "gods waiting room" probably because the average age here is 68 years old. But damn those baked goods look superb! Just your typical Jewish deli, with matzo ball soup for sale by the jug up front. Went here for bunch, got my bagel with smoked sable (like lox...but better) for which I cannot seem to locate anywhere else on the planet as of yet...Don't go here for dinner, I would say you would be much happier with a breakfast or a delish corned beef sandwich for lunch. Just be prepared to wait a bit especially if IN SEASON cause all the retirees love it too!

    (4)
  • Steve M.

Great deli - good pickles - good bread - and one of the best matzo ball chicken soups south of NYC and Philly! Sandwiches are a bit pricey but tasty and ample. Yeah, the seniors and snowbirds keep the place going, but you can find a spot

  • Michael C.

This place has a very good bakery/deli case that is worthy of 4 stars, although the bagels are just OK. The Knishes in particular are excellent when they come out fresh. The restaurant, though, is nothing special and EXTREMELY overpriced. 17 dollars for a skimpy nova platter with said OK bagel? Lose. The corned beef and pastrami are just regular National Deli stuff that you can get on better bread at Toojays. Service is pretty grumpy, and the decor is fine for a deli but 3 G's in Delray or even Too Jays seems like a better option.

    (3)
  • Eric L.

Love this Jewish deli. One of the best I have ever eaten in. Don't expect great service (as others have noted), but expect authentic home made Jewish deli food and an amazing bakery. Every breakfast starts with fresh marble cake...need I say more. Coffee sucks, but breakfast is excellent!!! I literally cannot get enough of this place and bring a box of rugelach and a bag of bialys back to Alaska everytime I visit.

not only is Flakowitz not even the best for what it is serving in its general area, it is a shame that anyone thinks it competes with anything in the major metropolitan areas, especially New York. the place is not that clean, the people working there are not that friendly, and the costs are ridiculous. A single bagel with white fish salad on it was $11. I can get a decent whitefish in publix or target, enough for 3 or 4 bagels and a dozen better bagels at a half a dozen places nearby and still have money left over compared to what I spent on one bagel. the platters are average, the sandwiches or just ok, can't say they are any better than say Two Jays, so overall, save yourself some money and go elsewhere.

When I visit South Florida, I come to Flakowitz. Why? Their low prices, potato pancakes, and proximity to my parents' house. The downfall is that It's impossible to come here during peak breakfast hours because of its location in geezer central: West Boynton Beach. It's hard to come up with more to say about this place. It's a Jewish diner; with a typical diner food menu.

Food is ok and I feel prices are ok Managment has attitude that they don't need your business Customers are the kind of New Yorkers that make us wish for Spring. I will avoid going there unless I'm getting my oil changed next door. Try Westside Bagels at Woolfbright & Jog instead!

My husband and I were on our way home from an Orlando and Key West Vacation. We like to search for local fare and try to eat at restaurants visited by Guy Fieri of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. I called them a few days before we visited as it was Thanksgiving Day to ask if they would be open. They said oh yes we will be open all day. When we arrived at 1:03 PM the hostess (an older seemingly grumpy woman) yelled from about 25 feet away WE ARE CLOSED. Looking perplexed and with other guests arriving she yells again WE ARE CLOSED AFTER 1 PM, BUT OPEN TO OUR GUESTS THAT MADE RESERVATIONS! Why was I not told this when I called, and really it was three minutes after 1?? They had an area where they were selling entrees, sides and bakery goods that looked very good. I just had more in mind for Thanksgiving Day dinner than eating in the car possibly without utensils, so we left! Too bad I bet the food was wonderful, but I hope this service was not characteristic of the entire restaurant staff! I was VERY disappointed, but my husband (he always tries to make a bad situation better) found a nice restaurant about five miles away Lantana Jacks. The food was great and they took great care of us!

Went to flakowitz last nite. What a dissapointment. Food was great as usual but service was horrible. Waitress named Heidi or Ivy was the worst. They had no bread to serve the table, according to her, but we saw other servers bringing bread out of the kitchen, Some items were out and she told us that that is what we should expect because we came in late (7pm!). I will go back but will certainly avoid that waitress

  • Christina F.

I wish there was a 3.5 star, but since there is not I feel the need to round down rather than up. However, if your on the highway heading say from Miami to Orlando, it makes a far better lunch stop than Dennys or McDonalds. When we arrived (1pm on a thursday) there was a line nearly out the door, but we were seated quickly. They have a huge menu. We had the tuna melt, and a hot pastrami. The service is basic, free of all pretense and niceties. The food is decent, very large portions, in fact was dinner that night, and some even got thrown away. The potato salad was NOT my friend, was in fact unlike any potato salad I have ever known, and unless you are familiar with it, to be avoided. The coleslaw was pretty good. The place is frequented by the snow capped set. While we were dining, a manager (a man who looked more like a nightclub bouncer than deli worker, but thats beside the point) came to the table next to us, and picked up the chair of the elderly woman next to us, and scooted her in, to make room for new patrons at a table behind her, He did this with no warning, and I thought it was INCREDIBLY rude. We stopped in the deli on the way out (I would probably eschew the whole sit down in lieu of takeout next time) and got a knish and a couple cookies for the road. Total cost. a bit over $40. And thats why Im not rounding up on the stars.

Was taken here by my grandparents who I was visiting over winter vacation, and this is like the Western Wall of south Florida - you head here first, right after landing into PBI. The long line actually moves quickly, but be ready for some sass talking hosts who all emigrated here from NY or Chicago. The food is mediocre but the menu is huge, our service was friendly but I've heard about much worse. Don't expect too much cleanliness, and although the food was OK its nothing like NYC which they are desperately trying to imitate. The seniors don't mind though, eventually they forget what NYC was like and just accept the long lines and mediocrity...pity. Three stars is a gift.

In all fairness, I am only rating this place based on the one time I was here and only on their bagels since this is the only thing I bought. Being a Brooklyn native, I have been on a search for a decent bagel here in South Florida. I heard this place was on DD&D on the Food Network, so I figured I would give them a try. First off, I would just like to say that this is not what a NY deli looks like. Yeah we do have those glass cases, but that is it. We don't have the sarcastic attitudes either, despite what people make think. Anyway, I ordered an everything bagel, with scallion cream cheese, tomato and bacon. I got a weird look when ordering it, but whatever, the guy who took my order was an old Jew. I didn't expect him to want to touch the bacon. So I got my bagel, which cost me $5.45. Ridiculous. We don't even pay those prices in the city, I don't expect them to pay them down here in florida. As far as the bagel is concerned... it sucked. This is not a bagel. A bagel should be big, doughy, a thin crisp crust and when you bite into it, it keeps its shape. This bagel was thin, bready and crap. Everyone keeps telling me its the water, I just think it's the people making them. I had a bad stomach ache after eating this bagel too. I have no idea how their regular food is, so I cannot comment on that and I'm not saying that I wouldn't try it one day but I'm not going back for any bagels again! Oh and yes, there are tons of old people in here. It's a jewish deli, and its in south florida....what does anyone expect?

The hostess and manager are both very nasty. We asked for a table large enough to seat 4 even though we are a party of 2. They told us they couldn't accommodate us even though they had 9 large tables with parties of 2. We had to fight for a table. Had my aunt not insisted she wanted to eat here I would have left. Will never come back.

I waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order then walked out. I asked 2 waitresses to take our order but they said they didn't help our table and saw no effort to get the waitress who is supossed to helping our table. There is no excuse for it. Update: June 2011...My parents took me here even after my first bad experience. This time it took 15 minutes just for the waitress to bring our water to the table, another 10 minutes for her to take our order. for some reason she couldn't take our order when we ordered drinks or brought the drinks to the table. Once we placed our order, the food came out fast, it was good but not great. I expected more for the money. I asked for a manager to complain about the horrible service but none came out. I also sent them an email on their website with no response. I guess they don't care about customer service. Bottom line, the food is just OK but the service is miserable.

This place has been around for decades. The original location on federal hwy in Boca has been updated to a strip mall in Boynton Beach. People flock to this place to have old fashion jewish fare (chicken in a pot, flanken, deli and appetizing). I have been a regular customer for years. Recently I have noticed a change in the quality of the food, the cleanliness, and the service. I think other people have too because the lines are not what they once were.

First of all this is not a Jewish deli. Can't be. Why? It serves ham. Nothing is more antithetical to a Jewish deli than ham - beside a photo wall of nazis. They aslo put cheese on sandwiches. Not kosher. Deli mavens go to get meats like pastrami and corned beef. They should be cured and aged. Because of this they don't need to be hidden under cheese. Just a little spicy mustard - served on rye bread. This place is in Boynton, a town with nothing to do in the heart of nowhere. I guess the unfortunate denizens of this town are not the most worldly folk, and have never been to a New York deli, such as the 2nd Ave. Deli in Manhattan. The only deli meat they know is probably processed junk they find in supermarkets or nursing homes. I made the mistake of trying this dreck and still regret it. A "DD and D" recommendation. A mistake, Even the bagels were bad. The pastries were bad. The soup was bad. A total culinary flop.
